The Lust Of The Eyes
The tree of the knowledge of good and evil had a fatal beauty that brought bad consequences. It is a danger which the woman had overlooked, but which the tempter used by his cunning to destroy Adam and Eve. Eve looked at the beautiful exterior of the forbidden tree, and driven by the thirst for power, she ate it in the company of her husband . The lust of the eyes was the second stage of this fall, because the woman saw and admired what is pleasant to the sight. However, all that is beautiful is not necessarily good. The lust of the eyes was a snare for Potiphar's wife who saw that Joseph was handsome in stature and handsome in face, testifies Genesis 39:6. And it came to pass that Joseph's master's wife looked to him. By dint of contemplating Joseph's elegance, Potiphar's wife ended up succumbing to the temptation, but she could not drag him into her perversion. Joseph, the faithful Servant of GOD who resisted him until the end for fear of THE LORD.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the FATHER, but of the world, says 1 John 2:16 . When we become fascinated by the exterior and forget the danger hidden within, we are often disappointed. Because appearances that are often deceiving. This is why it says in Proverbs 6:25: Do not covet her in your heart for her beauty, and do not be seduced by her eyelids.
To warn us of this risk, CHRIST said in Matthew 5:29 : If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away. It is not a question here of the physical eye which is the organ of sight, being part of the five senses of the human body, but of the eye of adultery which spies on the twilight, reveals Job 24:15 .
Here are some of the inherent consequences of eye lust:
- Breaking of communion with GOD.
- Loss of peace .
- Deterioration of health.
- Material impoverishment.
- Deprivation of eternal life .
How To Overcome The Lust Of The Eyes
Covetousness is the desire to possess what one does not have the right to obtain.
It is one of the causes of witchcraft, crimes, murders and wars between countries... in order to recover what belongs to others.
Covetousness began in heaven and there was a war in heaven which caused the enemy and his angels to be thrown down to earth and deprived of their dignity.
