Is Sex Before Marriage A Sin?

According to 1 Corinthians 7 :2 , the answer is clearly yes: "However, to avoid sexual immorality, let every man have his wife and every woman have her husband." In this verse, Paul presents marriage as a "remedy" for sexual immorality. To sum up, 1 Corinthians 7.2 says that since men do not know how to control themselves and there is so much sexual immorality outside marriage, they must marry to satisfy their passions in a moral way.

Thus, as 1 Corinthians 7.2 clearly includes premarital sex in its definition of sexual immorality, all Bible verses that condemn sexual immorality also condemn premarital sex as a sin. Sex before marriage is part of the biblical definition of sexual immorality. Many scriptures ( Acts 15.20 , Romans 1.29 , 1 Corinthians 5.1 , 6.13 , 18 , 7.2 , 10.8 , 2 Corinthians 12.21 , Galatians 5.19 , Ephesians 5.3 , Colossians 3.5 , 1 Thessalonians 4.3 , Jude 1.7) say sex outside of marriage is sinful. The Bible teaches abstinence before marriage. Sexual intercourse between a husband and wife is the only form of sex that God approves of ( Hebrews 13.4 )

Too often, we focus on the recreational aspect of sex to the exclusion of another important aspect: procreation. Sex within marriage is a lot of fun and God intended it that way. He wants men and women to enjoy their sexual activity within marriage. The Song of Songs and many other Bible passages (such as Proverbs 5:19) clearly describe the joys of sexuality. But couples must understand that God first planned sexuality to make children. Therefore, a couple who has premarital sex sins both in enjoying pleasures that were not intended for them and in risking giving birth to human life outside of the family structure God intended for them. each child.

Although practice should not be a determining factor in distinguishing right from wrong, if the biblical message about sex before marriage were followed, there would be far fewer sexually transmitted diseases, abortions, unmarried mothers, unwanted pregnancies and children growing up without both parents present. For God, there is no alternative to abstinence before marriage. Abstinence saves lives, protects babies, gives sexual relationships their proper value, and most importantly, honors God.
